I was probably meaning to tear up all my carpet, rip out baseboards and sheetrock, and replace the majority of our furniture anyway. At least now insurance can cover much of it…

Of course, the timing was slightly annoying since I still had two days left in our series on the relationship between religion and the paranormal.  Because I’m incapable of leaving things undone, we’ll be wrapping those up later in the week or early next week.

What about the May series on conspiracy theories, you ask? We’ll start that right afterwards and carry it through the month of June, along with the regular paranormal goodness you expect from Your Dark Passenger. (or the insane ramblings you expect…either way…)

And as a special treat, Your Dark Passenger is the official last stop on Sylvia Browne’s online book tour for her new book entitled, Psychic. I’m supposed to provide my book review on Wednesday, June 30 – and I will – but you can probably expect extra little tidbits as I read in addition. I have to admit, I really hope I enjoy the book since we all know I won’t lie about it.

Might be a touch on the awkward side if she pops by to discuss reactions to the honest story of her life as a psychic if I’ve posted a scathing review…

“Let your dark passenger come out to play…Be your own nemesis!”

Was that as confusing to everyone else as it just was to me when I reread it?  Sorry about that, dark passengers, but the time has come to get back to our dark roots (not picking on any bottle blondes out there…)  Tonight, Dark Passenger announces a new series that will be ongoing now through the end of the year…roughly.

Before I get into just what the heck I’m talking about, let me back up explain how this will effect the rest of our discussions.  It won’t.  There have been some reasons – that I won’t get into – for why the dream series has been delayed.  It’s still comin’!  Soon.   Promise.

As many of you may know, Dark Passenger got its name from the Showtime series, Dexter.  For the rest of you, the concept of a dark passenger living inside, driving us to do things, is brought up by our favorite serial killer with a soul, if you will.  You see, Dexter is a serial killer who lives by a code that forbids him from killing innocents.  Instead of letting his dark passenger drive him to evil, he channels his blood lust into good by killing only other killers.

Basically, Dexter is billed as the ideal anti-hero, but we love him anyway.

Or do we love him because of it?

Regardless, fans of the show – like me! – have been tuning in for three seasons to watch the combination of drama, crime and dark humor unfold before our eyes.

Have you not yet seen Dexter?  Maybe you’ve heard good things about the show yet you don’t watch because the idea of coming in after three seasons of plot development is unappealing?  Well, it’s your lucky day, dark passengers, because Showtime begins re-airing the series from the very first episode tonight with a three-episode marathon.  (Didn’t remember to set the recorder?  Don’t worry.  This is Showtime we’re talking about so I’m sure we’ll see it rerun at least a dozen times during the week.)

So check your local listings and clear out enough space in the old DVR unit to record all 36 episodes (3 seasons) that will air every Sunday now through the beginning of the Season 4 premiere in the fall.

Hello, dark passengers – both new and old.  Welcome to the new and improved Dark Passenger.  I think we’ll all have a lot of fun here.

Why ‘Dark Passenger’, you ask?  Great question!

Fans of the TV show Dexter will recognize this phrasing as he uses the term to describe the dark force within him that drives him to kill.  For those of you not in the know, Dexter is a serial killer who only kills other killers.  And he’s awesome.  So is the whole cast.

Anyway…

The way I look at the concept of a dark passenger is a little different than the way our favorite anti-hero does.  I believe we all have a dark force within us; a dark passenger that beckons us this way and that.  We all have those thoughts that just don’t seem to make any sense with everything else swimming around inside our heads.

But it goes deeper.  Much deeper.

Sometimes, our dark passenger will lead us to an interest – an unexplainable fascination – to dark topics and we have no choice except to dive in to learn more.  Of course, once we learn more about these dark topics, we find they were only dark because we had never allowed light to shine upon them.

By now you may be wondering what the topics I’ve listed above have to do with the dark passenger.  These are actually the areas my dark passenger beckoned me to explore.  Apparently, my dark passenger loves to learn more about the minds of serial killers, paranormal phenomena and conspiracy theories.  Until someone speaks up with a request for a different topic, I’m taking all of y’all along with me on my dark passenger joyride.
